It’s that time of year again: I’m feeling all poetic.

She wore her yellow sun bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;

She turned to the south +ahem+ north wind
and curtsied up and down.

She turned to the sunlight
and shook her yellow head,

And whispered to her neighbour,
“Winter is dead.”
Lets hope it’s on the way out, A A Milne, its been a bit bleak here on the Homestead.

AA Milne captured the spirit of the daffodil very well. Is the sheep eying off the daffodil as a potential snack? I’m unaware sheep find daffodils enticing.
No, Daz the ram is eyeing up the empty (because hes just eaten from it) feed bucket I’ve put down in order to take the photo
Glorious!
I remember discovering the poem and being so enthralled by the words (had no idea what “curtsied” meant) that I copied it and took it to school to show my teacher. She pointed out to me that, although I’d illustrated it as in the book with a glorious yellow fairy, it was actually about a flower and my mind was blown 😊
Love this! I grew up with Cecily May Barkers Flower Fairies ..introduced to them not long after I had been filled with all the AA Milne poetry in fact. Her Daffodil fairy is lovely, but I’m not sure she would curtsy….
There is no way CMB’s daffodil fairy would bend a knee to anyone 😊
A beautifully illustrated poem by one of my favourite writers .
I loved When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. Winnie the Pooh (I’m a little embarrassed to say) didn’t do much for me. As an adult Im a tad ashamed 😊
