All the tasks we had lined up for our weekend were gradually ditched as the temperature dropped colder and colder.

At least we managed, before our icy fingers stopped working, to get the compost barrel sieve contraption to a point where the concept has been proven. It’s always nice when theories work in the real world.

Since then we’ve had a couple of days of relatively pleasant-for-this-time-of-year days to kick along some projects. I’m pretty pleased at how obliging this weed-choked “border” is surrendering to my efforts to remove it.

A bit of relocated soil and some grass seed will go a long way to prettying up this weird corner of the Homestead. Who knows, in time it might even give the more conventional garden stars a run for their money

They’re not worried yet, though.

My day was made by seeing your ingenious compost barrel.
I’m so hoping it’s not just tricking us into thinking we’re on the right track.
What a beautiful magnolia! I’m glad the compost barrel actually did what it was supposed to do.
It’s a very pretty tree which in no way reflects any expertise from us. It looks after itself 😊 the compost barrel is still a wee way off but we got it far enough to confirm our theories are correct and it should do as we hoped. Im looking forward to it.; my arms don’t cope well with manual compost sieving
Blossom and magnolia flowers! Winter is slowly releasing its icy grip!
