The Topp Twins: Lynda and Jools. They made us howl with laughter- often in parody, embarrassingly tear when they unleashed those unbelievable harmonies, but most importantly they made it okay for me to be a stroppy girl who cared deeply about the world in a way that was just a bit too much; a girl “who wont ever, ever be plugged into the mains”.
They cared – for each other, our country, the future, and for what was fair and true. Bastion Point, Nuclear Free NZ, and the 1981 Springbok tour; A and P Shows, kiwi kulcha, and belly laughs.

RIP Jools and all our love to Lynda, Bruce and all those who knew her when she was just her and not Jools from the Topp Twins.

How sad it is when a beloved singer dies, especially so young.
The Topp Twins are so much part of our culture epitomising what it is to be Kiwi. I was so pleased and weirdly proud to see Lynda, her sister, speaking at the Aotearoa Music Awards last night. Still full of fight for what’s right!
