When the Chick Mum succumbed to her hedgehog injuries last week we were stumped as to what to do with her babies. She hadn’t got round to initiating them into the coop or teaching them the intricacies of the Grandpa Feeder. Could they even survive without her? Having mucked up the hierarchy in the sheep paddocks we were not too keen to swoop in and force the issue but we needn’t have worried. They made it very clear the barn was home,

they were more than capable of surviving as a group, and all we humans were required to do was top up the water and keep the chick crumble coming.
Today is a red letter day; they moved up to big kid food and their very own Grandpa feeder.

It’s propped open for now but I don’t think it’ll be long before they work it out. Nothing seems to stop them.

That is good news.
Sighs of relief all round that the chicks have got things sorted.
They seem to have it all under control😊
Yay for those chicks! It seems as though they must be old enough to be able to make it on their own.
I’m quietly confident but happenings of late have dented my convictions
Fingers crossed!
