Yesterday one of our recent chicks hatched a clutch all of her own.
This morning I came across this tableau

Is it a standoff? A stalking? A waiting-for-the-right-moment? Or is it simply two menagerie mates enjoying the sun? Who knows, but there were 12 chicks when documented this and 12 chicks there still is.
So I’m not going to worry. Much.

Glad there were still 12 chicks!
Me, too. The cats tend to give chicks a wide berth as the chick’s mums are ferocious
What a good mother!
Crossing my fingers 12 chicks continue to be the head count. That is definitely a cat that is sussing out a situation…
Shes definitely keeping an eye on the situation
I would tend to worry quite a bit. I hope that all turns out well.
This homesteading lark is riddled with worries, woes, big wins, and small delights. This chapter turning out to be a mixture of all of the above
Twelve chicks is quite a good sized family. Mother hens are usually good at keeping an eye on their babies but I wish you luck all the same!
Nature can be cruel and she is a first time mother; mistakes we hadn’t anticipated have played their part and four were lost overnight. Mum just got overwhelmed I think. Both humans and chickens have now upped their game.
Good luck with the remaining eight.
Thanks Margaret. So far so good
