Oh, joy! The sun was out this morning. In the vegetable garden the courgettes and squash were a mass of wide-open flowers and you could almost see the cabbages bulking up. Everything always looks better in the sunshine.
So it was a little irksome that I couldn’t get out into it. I’d taken a punt on the long-term forecast and cashed in a free power day from our power provider. I had a full day of baking and freezer-filling planned.
A message pinging into my phone just after 11 had me scuttling outside: rain was expected to start in five minutes. A quick scan of the sky; North, South, East, West. Really?

Time for another gamble. Leaving the washing on the line paid off but the sun did disappear behind the clouds for the rest of the day making my marathon baking day a little more comfortable.
I guess lady luck was smiling.

Free power day? For real? We definitely do not have that option here….
They’re pretty cool. We’ve been with our power provider for a looooonging time (folk would argue they’re not the cheapest but I like to think of it as ‘the devil you know’) and get 3 a year plus earn ‘points’ towards more.
A very good use of your free power day. We get cheap power after midnight for a while but I am not going to stay and do the baking then. 🙂
Do you save all your clothes and dishes washing until then?We used to have cheap power after 11 and, each night, the place whirred into life as the clock struck 😊
We don’t but we probably should. On the other hand, the fire brigade advise that you shouldn’t have electrical machines running when you were asleep in bed. It is hard to know what to do for the best sometimes.
