Today when I was hanging out the washing, I spotted two things of interest

and a half eaten apricot on the ground.
Dang Possums!
The lilies can remain outside (their pollen wreaks havoc on The Bean Counter’s sinuses) but as for the fruit…

it’s time to retape my trusty fruit picking stick (I’m going for double length this year; light but sturdy) and try and beat the blighters to it. No, don’t suggest the ladder – we’re not a good mix.

The crazy weather is evident in the diminished fruit size and number, and the delay in ripening. The hail storms (plural) have aesthetically done it no favours either, but I’m damned if those greedy possums are going to get them all.

Next to ripen? Usually it would be the freestone plums but this isn’t a usual year.
I’d better keep my eyes peeled and fruit-picker close at hand.

Squirrels for us. They get the walnuts and hazelnuts long before they are ripe.
It’s the snaffling it unripe that super annoys me.
I’m with you in keeping off ladders. Ambos would prefer people kept off ladders and roofs also. They’re the ones collecting the injured when things go wrong.
I am impressed you have fashioned your own fruit picking device.
It is a bit rickety but does the job.
That is a handy-dandy device! Much better than a ladder. Good luck getting that fruit.
Happy New Year! You’re right, it’s much much better than a ladder!
I could do with a device like that for our plums.
It’s very handy and it stops me taking silly risks.
