Adventure 2025#10 – Where?

We’ve just spent the night in a place of which we expected nothing.

What we knew:

  • It is very close to a very busy railwayline
  • Reviews and media have been less than complimentary about its location
  • Its proximity, half way between our point of entry and destination, ticked the box
  • “It’s only one night”

Simply chosen as a convenient  dot on a map, we took a chance on the Caboolture Motel and it was so worth it. The best shower, most comfortable bed, and Wendy was the friendliest and most helpful of hosts  – there was  even a little two- pack of biscuits for each of us waiting in our rooms.

In the way too many hours we had to kill between arriving and check-in, we partook in a round of the most sublime cheese and ham toasties  it didn’t matter that, as their cook was on holiday, that’s all we could order (thanks Shapeshifter Cafe) and then played a round of glow-in-the-dark mini golf. That I was soundly beaten was the only correct  prediction of our very short visit.

True,we were all so tired we’d have slept anywhere, when I dud briefly wake it was ro the sound of many sirens, and I can’t promise we’ll ever be back because this is truly a once-off, but if you’re ever looking for a place to lay your head an easy 47.7 k drive north of Brisbane, this is your place.

Remember us to Wendy.

  1. At least you’re safely in Queensland. The last place to be is in Sydney right now. You are in the unenviable position of being able to compare how Australia reacts to a shooting tragedy with how NZ reacted to a similar event.
