BSP #19 – How?

Every morning, I open BBC News on Instagram and catch up with what’s been happening in the world while I’ve been sleeping. I used to ignore the news – in fact, I can remember my lovely blogging friend, Susan, gently berating me for it – but now I see it as my duty as a citizen of Earth to be, at the very least, aware.

I know there is absolutely nothing I can do about what happens during my night; during my day, for that matter. Any actions I take will have no impact on the fighting, bullying, fearfulness, greed, and bigotry.

So, I sit here in my paddock, drinking my morning coffee from my favourite mug, and send love and hope and healing thoughts into the universe whilst wondering how…

How the hell do we humans keep doing this to each other?

    • Empathy stands in the way of Empire building so it’s very out of fashion. I reckon there’s way more empaths than bullies; lets do a Captain Planet…our powers combined. I thjnk it just starts with behaving like decent human beings

  1. I am reminded of an old Chris de Burgh song – Crusader (you already know about my deplorable taste in music)…the song is a very light/not very accurate rendering of the story of one of the many battles between the European Crusaders of the Middle Ages and Saladin, who led a mighty Muslim army, and held Jerusalem. The essence of the song is in two versions of one set of verses: Saladin at one point says “I am invincible, I am the King, I will win”. When the bloody battle is over, and Saladin has fled, the Crusaders say ” we are invincible, God is the King, and we will win”; the suggestion being that battles fought for right and honourable reasons are winnable (in this case, with God on their side). The last verse of the song continues a conversation between a wise man and his fool. The wise man asks if we have learned anything from history…”will it be this way again?”. And the fool replies “…there is only greed and evil in the men who fight today, the song of the Crusader has long since gone away”. A very long winded way of saying that I agree with Tootlepedal. For me, much of what goes on in the world these days, and always has, comes down to greed for power and wealth. Depressing perhaps, but I choose to side with the optimism of the Crusaders as portrayed in the old song.

    • I just want us to all be cordial. We don’t have to believe the same stuff, live in the same way or even like each other,we just need to stop thinking its okay to beat those who thjnk differently to us to a pulp either figuratively it literally.

  2. Sometimes I take a little break from what is presented as ‘news’. Human bad behaviour is considered more ‘newsworthy’ than the countless acts of kindness performed each day. I like to read the local weekly newspaper which reports the ordinary, every day going ons in life including what is putting local communities up in arms and joyful events the community supports.

    • I like my weekly newspaper too …the best place to source a tradesman, find out what’s going on locally and see the photos from the recent Spring Fair. You’re so eight about human bad behaviour passing as news
