BSP #14 – Lurking

In a previous post, I alluded to a possible contentious goings-on with the City Campus neighbours.

That would be the removal and replacement of our shared boundary fence which, had they approached us prior, we would have happily agreed to. To be fair, we’re reasonably happy with the new fence (a fence is a fence in our book) but it would have been nice to have been included in the decision making. It would have been legal too. Ah well, what’s done is done.

However, when their subcontractors removed the old fence it seems they basically hauled in one end of it and reeled it in. Something like that anyway; lets just say due caution didn’t get a chance to stretch its legs. Whilst a couple of our neighbours lost things attached to the old fence – washing lines and the like – we ended up with a hole in the house cladding where the little fencette (that’s the term for a teeny fence) from fence to garage was rent asunder during the aforementioned fence removal.

When we approached them with our problem (because they didn’t get in touch to say, “hey, sorry, we made a hole in your house”) they said they could get one of their plasterers to fix it if we wanted.

We approached our insurance company instead. The design and era of the City Campus construction makes it Leaky Building risk and we have a heap of paperwork proving weathertightness. This had now been compromised.

Anyway, very long story short, today was spent lurking at the City Campus while Andrew the specialised plasterer appointed by our insurance company popped in and out. He’s coming back tomorrow too, weather permitting, to slap a couple of layers of super-duper, guaranteed colour matched paint on.

No, we’re not taking it any further. Our insurance company will work to recoup their outlay.

We’ll just keep calm and carry on.

    • I think the building contractor whose slapping up the townhouses nextdoor is behaving in a manner usual for these folk. Everyone I speak to seems to have a story. Thank you re: our handling. The world is so nasty at the moment we decided to opt out of the fight
